A Day At The Races

As She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed forgot to take the magic piccie box with us when we went to Aberporth to watch the longboat races on Sunday here is a link to tell you all about longboat racing in Wales http://watersportswales.co.uk/longboathistory.htm.
Almost every weekend during the summer a different village on the coast holds a race meeting. It was Aberporths turn this week. The weather was sunny but there was a cold wind which whipped up a respectable swell on the water. There were four races in all, the men went first. They had to race to Penbryn and back, a distance of 5 miles in all. The race was won by the New Quay boat with Aberporth coming in second. This was followed by the ladies who only had to go half the distance to Tresaith and back. New Quay won this race aswell, in fact they won all 4 races with Aberporth coming third. The novices and juniors went next over the same distance and the mixed crews ended the day doing the longer distance.
Tansy and Sooty came with us with Beryl and we had a great time playing at digging and chasing. Sooty likes stealing my toys and running off with them!
While we were playing I made a new friend. His name is Ted, isn't he handsome? His Mum took this piccie and e-mailed it to us. We were waiting for She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed To throw a stone into the sea for us to chase.
She  Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed managed to lose my string of sausages, how could she? I mean they were my were my FAVORITE toy for taking to the beach, they were PERFECT for burying and digging up and chasing into the water and now they're GONE! (never mind Finn, I'm sorry I lost them. but we'll try to get some more, O>K?)                                                                                            t

Caerphilly Show

We went to Monmouth again this weekend for Caerphilly dog club's show. We tricked the weather this time because guess what, IT DIDN'T RAIN! No there was none of that nasty wet stuff falling from the sky making our furs all wet...... in fact it was soooo hot it would have been nice to have wet furs. We were at a different campsite  this time. It was on the bank of the river Wye and we weren't allowed to go swimming to get our furs wet because it was too dangerous.
Wot be this strange light in the sky? are the aliens landing or can it really be THE SUN?
The campsite in the early morning sun.
We put the side on the gazebo to give us some shades. Sooty had to stay in his cage 'cos he does be naughty when he's out. I don't know why Tansy had to stay in hers becos she's not naughty. I'm too big to have to stay in mine for long!
I didn't want to stay in the shades. I like the sun. It was nice and warm on my furs.
Here I am modeling my stay cool coat
 Don't I look smart?

Wet Weekend pt2

As you saw in the pictures in the previous post Saturday's weather wasn't too bad, in fact she Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed put her short leg covers on, we had a few drizzly showers but nothing to get the fur too wet. After we had finished our runs for the day we went for a walk along the Cotswold way, as Landsdowne racecourse is right by the side of it. Here are some of the scenics we saw.
 looking down onto Bath
 and looking the other way
There is a big cloud over that tree!
 Let's go back QUICK
 Is this the path?
That cloud does be catchin' us up petty quick
 OMD
 It's rainin'
that's a lot of rain comin' down
But it's nice and dry in the tent.
It stopped raining (briefly) for breakfast in the morning.
We had a very wet tent,
There was a big puddle under our tent!
The whole showground was waterlogged, we were paddling through puddles a couple of inches deep and the judges had to rearrange the courses round them as we don't have water jumps in dog agility yet! It rained all morning but even though the sun came out in the afternoon everyone, even people in 4x4's had to be towed out!
The roadway out of the showground.
Us being towed out.

I don't know what the racecourse officials thought when they saw the state of the ground on Monday morning, I hope they let us come back next year.

A Wet Weekend at Worcester

We were off to another show this weekend, this time we went to Top Barn Farm near Worcester. We thought we were barking mad to go as the weather was horrendous on Friday with dog knows how many flood warnings in place and the rain pelting down cats and dogs most of the way with more forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
Somehow we arrived without getting washed away!
This is our campsite. The rain bucketed down while we were setting up camp, but as soon as the tent was up it stopped and there was a (tiny) patch of blue sky!
There were showers on and off on Saturday, but at least it was dry when we got up in the morning. I had 3 runs on Saturday and another 3 on Sunday. Here I am in the second one on Sunday. It wasn't the best one though.
The best one was the very last one I did when I managed to knock She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed over.....tee hee.
When we had finished our runs for the day we went for a walk along the Severn Way.

We passed this lake,
What does that sign say?
Quick sand! What are you taking me this way for? Lets go back.
There's deep water under this bridge, this be a dangerous place.
Why you tasking me down this overgrowed path?
More dangerous deep waters.
Look the path is flooded, all those quicksands does be escaping, we must go back now.
When we got back to the campsite Beryl wasn't there! Had those nasty quick sands got her while we wuz away? Would I have to pull the caravan back all that long way home by myself? I wuz very worried.
Beryl still wuzn't back after we had had our dinner, we went for another walk, this time to the little village of Holt. It wuz a very pretty little village, but I wuz too worried about Beryl to enjoy the walk and just wanted to go and find her.

She came back just after us, she had been to visit a friend who lived nearby. I couldn't settle all night in case she went away and left us again.
On the way home we stopped at Llandovery and Beryl and She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed ate fish and chips by the castle.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llandovery_Castle)
