A Day on the Beach

We have been having a bit of a heatwave this week, so to make the most of it She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed decided we would spend the day on the beach today. We took my sausages to play with and I carried them,

 retrieved them,
 Brrrrr that was cold,
  guarded them
and dug a hole to put them in.
There was a black labrador who did lots of swimming and when his dad wanted to go home he wouldn't come out of the water. His dad walked off and left him and he just stood in the water wagging his tail, so his dad came back for him  but he still wouldn't come out. In the end he came over to see me and She Who Thinks She must Be Obeyed caught him, but there was lots of deep water in between us and his dad and his dad didn't have any swimmers on, (he had proper clothes on) so She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed had to take him back because she did have swimmers on and she did her first swimming of the year in the sea. She won't let me have the camera so there are no pics to prove it!!!
 Do you want my sausages?
Then just as She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed was getting bored with throwing my sausages for me (!!!) my friends Meg and Daniel arrived, here's Daniel shaking hands, isn't he handsome?
Daniel and Meg went to get their ball while I looked after my sausages.
This big ball came floating down the stream all by itself, so Daniel looked after it.
And then let it go again.
We had a good day on the beach today, but then we had to come home again and now I'm very tired.

Olympic Flame comes to Ceredigion and the K9 olympics

I competed in the Olympics today, not your humans Olympic games but our very own K9 Olympics which were held  at Sarnau while we were waiting for the Olympic flame to come past, and organised by Aberporth and district dog club. The K9 Olympics are obviously much more important than the human ones because they were held first. I competed in the decathalon and a race against the stopwatch. There was also long jump, high jump, football for dogs and basketball for dogs. There was a beer tent and hog roast for humans and tennis for children.

Here's Ann and Peter in the decathalon.
After we'd competed we went out to join the crowd lining the road waiting for the Olympic flame to come past.
 It was very boring waiting,
 and waiting,
 even Peter got bored.
There were lots of people waiting, we didn't know so many people lived round here!
Then something came along the road
There were lots of police bikes, it looked like all the police in Wales was here. Good job most of  the people  were here as well or lots of crimes could have happened!

And finally the flame got carried past and everyone cheered.
And then we went home.

Adventure Thursday

Well it really was Adventure Thursday this week! She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed decided we would go to the Wild Life Park at Cilgerran, http://www.welshwildlife.org/visitor-centres/the-welsh-wildlife-centre/. When we set out there was a thick sea mist, and we could hardly see the bus coming, let alone any wild animals, I mean is this  really a good idea, the wolves escaped a few years ago what if they didn't catch them all they might think I'm one in the mist and shoot me by mistake! Anyway we got on the bus and sat next to a grumpy man who didn't think dogs should go on buses, She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed said I was better behaved than most children and ignored him for the rest of the journey. When we got to Cardigan the mist had cleared so I didn't have to worry about being shot in mistake for a wolf.

Cardigan from the new bridge.

We got off the bus and crossed the river Teifi by the new by-pass bridge and went down some steps to the path along the side of the river which runs on the old Cardigan /Whitland railway track which was built from furnace waste to carry slate from the quarries and closed in the 1960's by Beeching. On one side you have the river and on the other the Teifi Marshes.
looking across the Teifi Marshes
The perfume from the blossom on the trees filled the air, She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed thinks it's lovely but it just makes it harder to find the really interesting smells like fox, rabbit and otter.
At the entrance to the wildlife centre there's this map, if you biggify it you can see how far we went,
Us K-9s have to keep our humans under control and on their walking ropes in the park in case they chase  or frighten the animals, it's the rools.
This is looking back over the marshes towards Cardigan, by the side of the path was this plaque telling you about some of the things you can see.
This Canada Goose didn't want us to stop here to have our lunch......
but we did anyway,
While we were eating these canoeists went past,
I wish I could go in a canoe.
After lunch we followed the gorge trail
through a couple of quarries, there was another plaque telling you all about it.
Last year She Who Thinks She Should Be Obeyed heard a Bittern here, but we didn't hear one today.

We had to go up lots of steps
And back down again.
At one point there had been a landslide and the path had fallen into the river, we had to scramble up the side of the gorge to rejoin it. It was quite scary.
Then the path left the wildlife park and went into this nature reserve.
We were very high up, way above the top of the trees. If you biggify the picture below you can see Cilgerran and the castle.
We carried on along the path and after a while we came to this across the path. The path we had just come along was closed because of the landslide! Good job we came the way we did or we would have had to turn round and go back again!
At last I found a drink!
There is a humongous drop over there down to the river, be careful don't go too near the edge in case there do be another landslide!
We finally came to Cilgerran, this is the church.
Look we are on top of the roofs of the houses!
We returned to the Wildlife park by the main entrance. Humans can go free here for a little while, sometimes there are deer along here but usually early in the morning.
I thought it would be quicker to go on the board walk across the marshes. Bad idea. No one told me there were nasty Marsh Monsters.....
They grabbed me and pulled me off the boardwalk into the marsh, I was very frightened. I was in lots of gooey, sticky, smelly, nasty mud and I COULDN'T GET OUT. Luckily I had She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed back on her walking rope and after ages she managed to fight off the Marsh Monster and  to pull me out.
Look how muddy I was and we had to get on the bus home in half an hour! She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed hadn't brought my towel with us because she didn't think we'd need it, so she had to try to make me look presentable again with her sweatshirt!

Luckily it was a nice bus driver and he didn't mind me being a bit wet and muddy.

Adventure Thursday

Yesterday was Adventure Thursday! She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed has decided that we are going to do 'Something Special' every week and as she has nothing else on on a Thursday that will be the day. Well we will have to wait and see if it really does happen every week, but it did yesterday, we packed some lunch and got the bus to Patch because we haven't been there for ages and ages and I really love it there. The tide was out when we got there, (only not quite as much as in this picture, which was taken a while ago) and we walked as far as we could amongst the rock pools,

then we turned back and walked along the river a way, this is an old picture as well, but there are still lots of boats by the boat club although maybe not quite so many as it is a bit early in the season yet.
This was taken yesterday, you can see how far we walked and how muddy it is going this way. In the winter there are lots of geese and other birds come here, but there were only a couple of Shellducks and a Swan yesterday.
I found a tennis ball washed up on the beach.
Because She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed got the bus timetable mixed up, she didn't think the bus we got was going to Patch so she had bought a return ticket to Cardigan before the bus driver said he was going to Cardigan via Patch, so  instead of walking home like we usually do when we go to Patch we took the coastal path, (which goes all round Wales now only we didn't go that far because it would take too long and our paws would be worn out), and went back to Cardigan that way which was much better than walking on the road.
We went through lots of fields, I dropped my new tennis ball and had to go back for it. Didn't I get muddy by the river?
We found a spot to have our lunch with some good sceniks, that's St Dogmaels in the picture above and that's where we walked from below.
We got back to Cardigan with time to get some shopping before we got the bus home and I had two bus rides in one day so it really was Adventure Thursday.

I wonder where we'll go next week.
